Philex Mining Company (“Philex”) is a Filipino mining company that values the dignity of every individual and the basic human rights recognized under the Philippine Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In all our endeavors, we are committed to respect human rights and to conduct our activities in a manner that is consistent with applicable laws and best practice in mineral exploration and development, environmental stewardship, health and safety, and community relations.
Ethics
We conduct our business fairly, honestly, responsibly and with due regard to the dignity and human rights of every individual, in accordance with applicable laws in the jurisdictions in which we operate, including those that guarantee protection to human rights and labor laws that guarantee rights of workers and employees.
Communities and Indigenous People
We recognize the desires and aspirations of the communities and indigenous peoples hosting our projects. To them, we commit that we will act responsibly and will obey applicable laws to:
(1) minimize the impact of our projects on the environment;
(2) protect the health and safety of those directly affected by our activities; and
(3) ensure that they receive real benefits from our operations.
It is essential for us to engage our host communities and indigenous peoples, that they may see us as responsible, fair, honest, and law abiding corporate citizens in all phases of our operations. We treat our host communities and indigenous peoples as our partners in the exploration and development of our mining projects. To us, social acceptability is very important for long-term, stable and beneficial resource development. We strive to give the communities and indigenous peoples the real benefits from our operations and to leave them a lasting legacy by adopting programs geared towards developing their livelihood and capacity requirements and their social, cultural, educational, health, safety and environmental needs.
We respect the cultural practices of indigenous peoples.
Employees
We conduct our business and activities fairly, honestly and with due regard to the dignity and human rights of our employees, including the rights guaranteed by our labor laws. We promote safety, non-discrimination, environmental awareness and commitment in the workplace and we support programs that promote the development and potential of our employees. We encourage transparency, professionalism and accountability among our employees.
Environment, Health and Safety
History has shown that mining and civilization have always marched in pairs and have always supported the advancement of each other.
In a mineral resource rich but impoverished country like the Philippines, the mining industry will always be in the best position to be the catalyst for unlocking the wealth of the nation to free the Filipinos from the oppression of poverty and to help them build better lives for themselves and the future generations.
We recognize, however, that for our stakeholders to see beyond their fears over a possible adverse impact of our activities to the environment and their health and safety, we must in no uncertain terms demonstrate our commitment to minimizing the impact of our activities to the environment and ensuring that our activities do not adversely affect the health and safety of our employees, the members of our host communities, the indigenous peoples and other persons who may be directly affected by our activities. We undertake our mining activities responsibly and we comply with applicable laws to minimize the impact of our projects on the environment. We have also adopted safety and health management programs to allow us to undertake our projects safely and without endangering the health of our employees, our host communities, indigenous peoples and those who may be directly affected by our activities. We expect our contractors and suppliers to comply with our safety and health management programs.
Shareholders and Stakeholders
We undertake our mining activities efficiently and responsibly consistent with best practice in mineral exploration and development to enhance shareholder value and create value for our stakeholders – the State, the local governments, host communities and indigenous peoples, our employees, customers, contractors and suppliers.
